3/12 H

This Design Communication class is by far the best one yet. I learned more so much useful skills this quarter. Being exposed to combining 3D with 2D for our design concepts was sooooo helpful. Definitely a great way of developing concepts, and quick.

Another point, trying to be quick and really crank out designs, because thats how it works in the industry. Following a timeline and sticking to it, learning to be efficient.

I also enjoyed that we focused on the 'Communication' part, verbal communication. Learning how to present our designs and being comfortable and confident in presenting our work. Thats such a important part, if you can't speak about your work, its really hard to relay the design to people.
We had never practiced our presentations before in any other class, and I think thats such a mistake. Presentation is so important, and we need to develop those skills, earlier on.

Overall, I think I improved my abilities as a designer this quarter. I am definitely more comfortable in Illustrator, to use it as a rendering tool along with Photoshop. That is something I had not had any exposure too until this quarter. I am more comfortable in 3D as well, learning to integrate 3D modeling and sketching as a design technique is for sure a great skill to develop and practice. It really helpful in the middle stages of development, before final level renders and early sketching.
My goals for next quarter are simply to develop a my ability to visually show my desings, so it is fully explained through visual means. I will continue to develop my hand sketching, because I think there is great value in that. I will practice talking and writing about my designs more, to become more confident in explaining them.

Blog as a communication tool?
I'm not sure how I feel about the Blog. I have never been a user before, and only have a blog because it was required for a class. I, personally do not see myself using a Blog after this. It just not ingrained in me as a habit.
But, as a tool for communicating design, it seems to be pretty useful I suppose. It easy to check several Blogs at once and easily read alot of posts in a few minutes time. I like how its more about giving/sharing knowledge than receiving. Although, you end up gaining a lot of information because of that, so it works.

From the goals I established, I am trying to access the progress I have made.
I believe I have made some improvement in the presentation area, as far as becoming more comfortable in from of a crowd and not lettering my nerves ruin my presentation.

I think one of my strengths as a design is my attention to peoples' needs.
Its all about the user, and actually improving the user experience regarding the particular product. Sometimes the user doesn't even know what he or she needs, but I like to pay close attention to detail and really analyze the task at hand.
